hurricanes and farmer’s markets

As everyone knows by now, there was a well-hyped weather formation resembling a hurricane that passed near Brooklyn last night and this morning. We got a little rain, a little wind, and a great excuse to sit at home eating Luigi’s pizza and drinking PBR on a Saturday night. Like the good former Girl Scout I am, I prepared much more than I needed to though, and now have enough batteries to last the next ten years. That, and a hefty supply of nuts, canned goods, and bottled water.Better to be prepared than to end up sitting in the dark hungry! (more…)

back where it all began: dad’s kitchen

My mom bakes a mean cake, but my dad is really the one who taught me to cook and, more importantly, to really love and enjoy food. So I thought I’d kick this blog off with an amazing meal I made with my dad, brother, and step-mom just before I left for Brooklyn last month. (more…)
